Tell us a bit about yourself:
I am 39 Years old, live in Denmark, close to the sea and second largest city Aarhus. I live together with my husband Rune, who is photographer, 2 sons, Tristan and Oliver and 2 cats. I am visual artist and illustrator, but working also as photographer, graphic designer and video-photographer.

When did you know that art was your thing?
I grew up in a family of artists. My father is painter, my mother is a textile artist, my grandparents were painters and also my sister paints. My childhood environment was very creative, playing with paints, spending lost of time in theatre (my father worked as scene artist), spending time with my parents friends who were actors, artists, writers, musicians. But I was not sure if I wanted to be painter until my 30’s. I studied art, but after I finished the University, I was working as news graphs designer. Until I decided to work for myself, and work with projects, that are creative and inspiring and meaningful to me.

Do you have a favorite medium?
Mixed media in the moment, but I love to paint with water colours. I love the creative process, and the surprising moment when I feel that now the painting is finished and I have to stop.

What’s your favorite part of the art making process?
I am an energetic person, I work very fast and when the task is finished, I have to find something new to do. I get bored very fast, so I am trying some new techniques constantly. I love the feeling when I forget everything and only concentrate on  painting. It is very energy demanding. If I don’t paint, I get grumpy.

What inspires you to create?
Nature, music, exhibitions, vintage papers, flea markets, movies, other people. Probably I can find inspiration in everything, just you have to look and concentrate. But I am convinced that working is the place for inspiration. I have to start and then it comes, even if I only paint lines or dots.

What’s the most rewarding thing about sharing your art with the world?
People who are buying my art, they write long emails to me, how they felt connection with my art and how happy they are now. I have met some very nice people through my art. Maybe I can inspire some.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am 38 years old and have lived my entire life in Minnesota. I currently live in Minneapolis with my partner of 18 years, Brad, and our cat of 18 years, Nudge.
I paint full-time from a small studio in our house.

Image

When did you know that art was your thing?

I didn’t have any real interest in art until college. I had finished all of my general course requirements at the UofMN and still had not figured out what I wanted to “be” when I grew up. I took a drawing class on a whim with a friend of mine and fell in love. After that I changed my major to Art and took all different kinds of art classes. I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1998 and after a few “day jobs “ I started doing art full time in 2003.

Image

Do you have a favorite medium?

My favorite medium is acrylic paint. I am impatient and I work very fast so the quick drying time is ideal for me. I also adore my pink mechanical pencils for fine detail work.

Image

What’s your favorite part of the art making process?

There is a high for me when something I have been working on finally feels done in a way that really resonates. How sad that the moment occurs just when the thing is DONE!? That fleeting feeling creates a motivation to try again and again.

Image

What inspires you to create?

I’m not exactly sure. Inspiration is really mysterious to me. There are certain things that inspire me- animals, seeing beautiful color combinations, vintage things, etc. – but I think I would be inspired to create even if I was locked in a dark room. It might be something internal that I can’t understand. That said, I try to keep my eyes peeled for inspiration all the time.

Image

What’s the most rewarding thing about sharing your art with the world?

For me making art is a very solitary and personal pursuit. I spend most of my time alone and talking to my cat. When I put it out there in the world and people respond to me it makes me feel more connected. Art is my favorite way of communicating. Ha!

Where can we find your work?

My next big show is at The Devos Museum of Art at Northern Michigan University. (8/19-9/29/13) I will be showing 20 paintings and 20 new hand-painted shooting targets.

I stumbled upon farmersdaughter52 while browsing art on Etsy. I was really taken by the color, detail, and imagery in her paintings. So I’m very pleased to be able to feature, interview, and present some of her work for you here. Hope you enjoy.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Connie, I was born in 1952, I grew up on a small family farm in central Texas and had what I consider the most fortunate childhood possible. Surrounded by wonderful family and community my youth was filled with opportunities to experience the many joys of a simple but most fulfilling and rewarding way of life.

Each day brought lessons necessary for survival in both the literal and figurative senses. A pride and appreciation of self-sufficient industry as well as the love of honest hard labor balanced with the necessity of working in harmony with others to guarantee a prosperous outcome for all are values I do not take for granted.

Image

What inspires you to create?

In my attempt to honor those who gave this legacy to me and also to leave a history for those who will come in the future, I have been inspired to share in craft and pictorial essay my memories of those days, which are past, but never forgotten. It is my desire that you too will be delighted and entertained by remembering or experiencing anew a most cherished era and way of life.

Image

Tell us about your art.

I am a self-taught artist. The country scenes I paint offer pictorial stories reflecting childhood memories. Scenes combine actual places embellished by the use of whimsical artistic license to depict stories of various events and traditions or simply to create a visual spectacle rich in emotional value. My eventual goal is to combine a group of works accompanied with narrative into a children’s book to preserve in visual essay,a tribute to a most cherished time and way of life.

Thank you so much Connie. I really admire your paintings. In addition to artwork Connie also creates and sells handmade crochet, quilts, needlework, and ornaments through her online shop on Etsy farmersdaughter52 check it out!
